Heroic Realism

By X. Z. Shao
A playing with serious W. B. Yeats

A right woman seems indispensable
when poems are forged,
fuel stoked into a kiln
to harden and give textures
to Chinese ceramics,
but she is not out there to be loved,
for even your heart bleeds like Yeats’,
she still carelessly paints her lips and laughs.
